São Bartolomeu village is located in the barrocal sub region [thyme, fennel], dips into the tidal creeks and salt marshes of the river Guadiana, [bulrush, bamboo, reed, glasswort] and stays at 1,5km from the foothills of the Sierra [gum rockrose, honey, partridge, Mediterranean dwarf palm].
Praia Verde, 1,5km away, is the center of Monte Gordo bay, a vastness of temperate beaches [donax clams, shrimp, coastal fish] which are hemmed with pine and broom [chameleon] and dunes [helichrysum].

In Cacela Velha, to the west, begins Ria Formosa [clam, oyster, European razor clam].
